Supergirl 1984 is largely considered one of the biggest stinkers of superhero movies. We kind of disagreed. In this podcast we discuss the first female lead superhero movie staring Helen Slater as Supergirl.
So, to be honest the only reason I really wanted to do this movie was because I had a huge crush on Helen Slater as a kid (No relation to Christian Slater). And while I remembered having a huge crush on her when this came out (I would have been 10) I remember not liking this movie. As a matter of fact when we discussed reviewing it we both remembered not liking it. But we both seemed to take a turn after watching it again.
I feel like this is unfairly beat up on. Scoring only a 4.4 on IMDB it seems that while this is by no means a great movie, it’s watchable. How Helen Slater didn’t just become America’s Sweetheart out of this film is beyond me.
It was however difficult for us to decide if maybe we didn’t like this movie just because we really didn’t like some of the other flicks we had been review like the Sylvester Stallone action crapper Cobra. This movie was way better than that one!
