Hello Friends! In this weeks edition of the MovieMoshPit Podcast we discuss the 1999 classic Blast From The Past. This movie was written by Bill Kelly and Hugh Wilson. Hugh Wilson most notably was the creator of WKRP in Cincinnati. This movie stars Brendan Fraser, Alicia Silverstone, Christopher Walken, Sissy Spacek and Dave Foley. All of which have enjoyed huge careers of their own.

Blast From The Past is a story about Brendan Fraser’s character (Adam) having to venture out into the world as a 35 year old who’s never been out of the family fall out shelter. During a bomb scare in the 60’s, Christopher Walken’s character (Calvin), and atomic age inventor, moves his pregnant wife Helen (Sissy Spacek) into their underground fallout shelter. Having mistaken a plane crash for a nuclear holocaust Calvin sets the locks for 35 years to keep his family safe below ground.

Running low on supplies 35 years later they decide to let their son Adam, venture out into the world of Los Angeles to retrieve necessities. Boozy mom Helen sets him up with what little cash they had, stock certificates and baseball cards. But Adam’s only wish… Can I meet a girl.

He meets Eve (Alicia Silverstone) in a sports memorabilia store where he’s about to get raked over the coals for the Mickey Mantel rookie card and the adventure begins. The movie is full of fun banter between extremely naive Adam, and had it with men Eve. Eve, who Adam hires to help him round up the list of supplies he’s to bring back to the fall out shelter.

Blast from the Past is one of my personal favorite movies, I’ll watch it pretty much every time it’s on. Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek are fantastic in this movie. But when are they not? Also worth mentioning is Dave Foley. My first exposure to Dave was from the series The Kids in the Hall. Playing the roll of Eve’s roommate in this picture was good for some laughs.
