The Warriors (1979) movie classic was one that was a requirement for the podcast. This takes place in New York City where gang leader Cyrus assembles area gangs in a bid to combine forces to take over the city. This effort is to take over the entire city vs small pieces of turf. The attempt ended as Cyrus assassinated mid rally. The Warriors gang was falsely blamed and this film is their fight to get back home while being hunted by all the cities rival gangs.
I was completely unaware of this film until my podcast partner Brian suggested it. I can honestly say this is my favorite movie we’ve done so far. Written by Sol Yurick, stars, Michael Beck, James Remar, Dorsey Wright, Brian Tyler and David Patrick Kelly. We cover various aspects of this film from how well it was put together to details of the mini side plots. All taking place while The Warriors are trying to make their way from the Bronx to Coney Island.
In a time with no technology, only busses, trains and shoes this story shows the stress of these gangs trying to make the trek while encountering rival gangs on their way as they have been marked for the murder of Cyrus.
Being unaware of the lore of this movie I found myself consumed with various details form shooting to production issues. I recommend taking some time and looking at the IMDB link and reading the did you know section. There are tons of nuggets in there including the movie being pulled shortly after release due to street violence.
Absolutely watch this film! CAN YOU DIG IT!!!!!
